At the Illinois family law firm of Weiler & Lengle, returning client inquiries is our "job one." We will return all your phone calls. If your question is simple — for example, "when is my next court date" — a non-attorney member of our staff can handle it. For more complex inquiries, our office policy is that if your family law attorney is available, he or she will talk to you. If your attorney is tied up in court, depositions or settlement conferences, he or she or someone else in our office who can answer the question will get back to you within twenty-four hours.
We will keep you informed about all telephone conversations and conferences with your spouse's divorce lawyer, and the substance of these conversations. We will provide you with copies of all court papers and correspondence about your case. Nothing from or to your spouse's divorce lawyer goes into our files until a copy is forwarded to you.
We understand that this is your case, and you need to be in the driver's seat. The important decisions are up to you. We will not make them for you, but we will advise you of the consequences of your choices.
We will offer you our considered legal opinion on whether we believe it is in your best interests to accept a settlement offer. But the final decision is up to you.
The keystone of communication, and the attorney-client relationship itself, is honesty. It is our job to tell our clients what they need to hear, even if it is not good news, and not what they want to hear. If you become a client of Weiler & Lengle, we want you to feel that you have had an opportunity for input into the outcome, and to believe that you have been dealt with in a fair and honest fashion.
If you are not already represented by an Illinois family law firm and would like to schedule a conference to discuss a family law matter, please contact us by phone or online. With offices in St. Charles, Illinois, we serve families throughout the Tri-City / Fox River Valley area.
